Navitas Solar Installations Ltd completed this immense installation at Hammerstone Road, Manchester, this complete refurbishment of Manchester City Council’s waste disposal and maintenance depot located at the old Gorton Foundry site on Hammerstone Road in Gorton, Manchester, which was once occupied by railway manufacturers Beyer and Peacock who manufactured nearly 8,000 railway locomotives here from 1854 to 1966.

Over 2190 SolarPV Panels (420w) have been incorporated into the design to minimise carbon emissions related to building processes and vehicle charging. To augment this strategy a battery storage solution has been proposed to store renewable energy generated by the PV during peak periods, thus maximising carbon reduction and minimising the technologies payback period.

Working closely with our colleagues at Morgan Sindall Construction, Navitas delivered this 920.6kWp immense SolarPV installation safely and on-time.

Estimated Annual Output
25,500KWh

The 34.12kW SolarPV system was installed in 2023 at MPE offices in Dinnington on the Sheffield and Nottinghamshire borders. The aim was to promote an environmentally friendly workplace that was self-supported and efficient to run. Navitas designed the system consisting of 91 No. 375w Canadian Solar Panels and it was predicted to generate 25,419 kWh of electricity per year.

During our annual inspection visit, we have recorded that the system has actually generated 30,297 kWh of electricity over this initial period, which is a great achievement for this first year of production.

Managing Director of MPE, Chris; “Talking to people about our Solar still seems fresh, so we were surprised to hear from Navitas that our first-year review was ready. We knew that our electricity bills had dropped significantly but we were delighted to hear the results of how well the system had actually performed. The system was predicted to be paid for within 4.5 years but based on these results, this will be greatly reduced which is proof the investment was the right decision. Thank you Navitas for your continued support”.
